Ah! finally some progress. once you master the errors of a system you master the system. this quote seems to work quite well (no idea who its from though. maybe i just invented it; dunno 
). anyways, this is the next step in the line. although it aint perfect yet. to be specific the virtual scene lighting is still not like the original. but i liked this render a lot and hope you do too.
btw. the brightness of the scene is intended in this case.

Update: i felt like the colours were too cold so i just tweaked the curves a little.

Less mechanical and more alive it looks now. Somehow a spring version instead of the colder-looking winter version. Me likes it.
